I’ve talked about the importance of having a best friend in Hollywood and it really can’t be said enough how vital that is. But just as important as having a best friend is to have a great support system. A group of friends or family that has your back and will be honest with you.
You often read interviews with famous Hollywood celebrities who talk about how having friends from before their fame has helped them to stay grounded. Or how having trusted family to bounce ideas and projects off of has helped them to avoid making terrible choices. I have thought about this a lot over the years. There have been many people in my life who have laughed at my dreams or who have put me down for wanting to pursue this career path. These are people that really should have been more supportive, whether they were family or just close friends, but the truth is that they weren’t able to do that.
I’ve also been really blessed over the years to find people who have 100% supported. People who have listened to my ideas and told me to go for it, people who have picked me up when things haven’t worked out and told me to try again. When you find people like that, you need to make sure that you tell them how much you appreciate them.
Here is a big secret about your support circle though. They are not supposed to just say “yes” or blindly support you. A big part of their job is also to call you out if you are wrong, on the wrong path or just full of it. They are supposed to help you see all sides of a choice and if you’re about to make a life-altering mistake, they should absolutely try to stop you.
