Changing Your Diet to Keto Slowly

While I was at my highest weight, the worst part about it was the way I felt inside and out. Not only did I not fit in my clothes, I just didn’t feel good. I had to do something. I had already cut out corn and soda’s a few years back, but I cut out dairy and you’d be amazed at how many plant based, non-dairy options are available now, and you can try goat or sheep’s cheese too if you suspect that it’s cow’s milk that is a problem. I also cut out gluten and these two changes, were the biggest ones I made to my diet. I had also been weaning myself off sugar by eating honey instead and swerve or monk fruit sugar along with stevia. Those are really the only alternatives to sugar that I prefer to use. This was the first step to moving to the keto diet.

Another change I implemented was that I started making a specific green drink from chlorella, moringa, spirulina and I added mineral greens to it. I made this at home and had one or two tablespoons a day in a glass of water. This is considered Keto cause it has very little calories and almost no sugars. I did my best to eat better too, the more real, fresh food, the better and finally I also worked hard to make sure I was sleeping better. I learned better tips and tricks for sleeping better by listening to the book “Sleep Smarter” by Shawn Stevenson Another favorite of mine is a coffee drink with cinnamon, cacao powder, coconut oil, and powdered bone broth with a non-dairy, no sugar creamer.

It is a lot to do all at once, but I had to make changes for the better and this was the start of my path to getting healthy. Of course there were times I cheated, but for the most part I got healthy and lost weight over the next six months and felt so much better.

Then I was able to do other diets like keto and intermittent fasting and then give vegetarianism a try. I believe in doing things gradually to ensure more success and not beating myself up when I do things wrong, like eating poorly. Instead, I focus on what I did right that day or week and pat myself on the back for working out, even if it was only two days that week. It’s important to remember that if you eat poorly, that is one meal or snack, not the whole day. You can pick up your good habits again for the next meal. Focus on the positives.

I don’t like to feel regret about food or exercise because to be frank, there are plenty of other far more important things going on in this world to be beating ourselves up over relatively small things such as missing a workout or having an unhealthy meal. Instead I think about how good we have it here, especially as I have been fortunate enough to travel, so I have seen how things are in other parts of the world.

I know that we really are blessed here and if you live in another country, think of all the things that you do have, rather than focusing on the negatives. There’s no need to regret eating food that isn’t on your eating plan every once in a while.

Physical and mental and spiritual health is so important. Eating well, keeping your body fit and well and ensuring that you are looking after your mental health are vital. Beating yourself up about mistakes is not the right thing to do. Keep positive when you are making life changes to your diet. You should be proud for making the decision and be proud that you are taking the necessary steps and then be proud of your drive to keep going.
