One thing that I would one hundred per cent recommend to anyone–especially in Hollywood–is to have a best friend. You need to have someone who always has your back, someone who will give it to you straight, but tell you with love, someone who supports you wholeheartedly. I have been blessed to have the most amazing best friend and partner in crime in my friend Laurie.
We work together on our blog, Moviemaker Central, and also collaborate on our Facebook page. We love to get together and hang out and work through all of our ideas. She is smart and brilliant and beautiful and just super, super talented and I am so grateful to have this awesome woman as a friend and business partner. I always feel so excited when I know that we’re going to be working on a project together.
That is why you need to have a best friend. In Hollywood, there can be a lot of cut-throat people and sadly, a lot of people who will take advantage of you. Sometimes it can be very lonely and isolating and so it’s vital to have at least one person that you can absolutely trust. They don’t need to be someone who always says “yes” or agrees with you. In fact, that’s the worst thing they can do. What you need is someone who can tell you when you’re doing something silly or when your ideas aren’t great. You need to have someone who can keep you grounded when you’re on a high or lift your spirits when you’re as low as you can get. Someone to bring you soup or cheer you on.
When you find that person (or people), don’t take it for granted. Work through any disagreements you may have and make sure to value each other.
