He slept on a studio lot and would go down to the film sets and eat the craft services and watch people make movies.
It’s a little like Wedding Crashers, nobody knows who you are on a set unless you tell them and at a wedding, you can be with the groom or the bride’s family so it’s easy to fit in.
It was easier years ago when Spielberg started out to crash a film set. Now, the best way to learn film making is to get on a film set.
