Louise Brooks was a successful American actress and dancer. She was born on November 14th, 1906 in Cherryvale, Kansas, US. She was born Mary Louise Brooks. During her time, the flapper was a popular type and she was one among them. She becomes a flapper sex symbol. One of the reasons for her being the same was the bob hairstyle. This helped her a lot in getting popular and getting some of the films too. She was mostly into the Jazz type.
Career
Her career started with silent films like most of the other actresses of the same age. Her first silent debut that becomes popular was the stress of forgotten men. Of course, as it was her first film, she wasn’t given any credit for her role and her role was uncredited.
Later on, she got many silent comedies. Flapper films were a huge hit at that time. Therefore, she got many roles in the same thing.
Not to mention, she was also pursuing her career in dancing. She performed at various events as a dancer.
After doing various small roles in the films, she got the contract. Two contracts came in at the same time. One of them was from paramount and the other one was from MGM. Both of them offered her the same contracts.
She finalized to go with Paramount pictures. This was her transformation from silent films to sound films. Her first sound film where she worked as Beggars of Life was released in 1928. Soon after the production of that film was completed, she started working for another great film called Pre-code.
Brooks continued doing such films in her career. Later on, she traveled to Europe. Upon arrival, she got the silent film which was Pandora’s box. This was the European film that she got at that time.
She then returned to America and continued her film career there. She did many other films. Brooks was not active for a lot of time, unlike other actresses. She was active from 1925 to 1938. Thereafter, she stopped doing films.
There are many notable films. However, the best films for which she is known to include Pandora’s box and Diary of a lost girl. Both of them were released in the same year (1929).

- Earlier, when she was a dancer. She was the youngest member of Denishawn dancer.
- When she joined the dancing group, she was just 15 years old.
- She didn’t directly apply for any of the studios. She was discovered by Paramount Pictures when she was dancing with Ziegler Follies.
- At the age of 19, she signed a 5-year long contract with the studio.
- One of the reasons why she was famous and influencer was her hairstyle. At that time, she influenced many women and girls to get bob haircuts.
- When she returned to America from Europe, she was blacklisted. The main reason was her denial of her last film.
