Working with Hector Gutierrez is a lot of fun. I had met him at group shoots and by then I had already done a few one-on-one shoots privately. At the group shoot we were going to bodyscaping but I wasn’t called to do that. He mentioned to me though that he felt I had a great body for that type of shoot and when he showed me a few examples of what he had in mind I was really excited to give it a go.
We set up the shoot and we did a lot of different poses, including some that must be fairly standard for bodyscaping shoots. I have to say that I really liked seeing my body presented in that way. I had brought some oil with me and we had a spray bottle with water in it as well. I remember the water was really cold, but it was totally worth it. It’s always worth it when you’re creating art.
I also really enjoyed this shoot because when you are modeling, there is a lot of emphasis on facial expression, neck angle, stomach, what are you doing with your hands etc, and I find sometimes that the positions aren’t very natural so I feel stiff and strained afterwards, even if the photos turn out really natural looking.
With a bodyscaping shoot, there is a sense of freedom because you don’t have to worry about your facial expressions while you move from one pose to another, instead you can just work on the angles and poses that work best with your body and getting that great shot. I have to confess that I found that very cool.
