How to be an Actor’s Director-1

Working with actors as a director. A lot of directors get nervous working with actors mostly because they don’t know what the actor is going through or doing and most directors would not act themselves. After years of directing this for sure goes away. But one thing that helped me working with actors not just taking acting classes but also directing plays and scenes for theater. Getting the time and the comfortability to work with actors gives you a chance to fix some of their problems and discover yours as well. You will understand actors more and can get faster at spotting and fixing them which is what happens on sets.

You need to be quick and fast and able to work with actors on the fly. The more experience you have, the more comfortable you are and the more comfortable you are the more you will act and feel like a pro. I believe with confidence and comfortability you will be more confident in interviews and go sees. Which can help you get more and more work. In this series on directing actors I want to give you some tips that will solve some common problems actors have and remember each actor is different and some will pick things up quickly and others may not. You will get better at spotting which actors are quick learners and which are not. The key here is to do lots of work. One way to do this is link up with a group of actors and tell them you want to work with them as a director. Some actors have short scripts written they would love to shoot but don’t know where to start.

Put adds on Craigslist and other local resources to find crew and let them know you are all working to learn and build your reels. Some people may be insulted by this but do not let them discourage you keep on working towards your dreams. Don’t be too critical of yourself keep working at it your work will get easier and better.
