How to be an Actor’s Director-4

How to be an Actor’s Director-4

A good thing to do with actors is to warm them up. Just like dancers need to stretch and singers need to warm up tiger voices I have seen some of the best actors at UCI religiously warm up their minds bodies and voices.

Some good warm ups could be

  1. Improv any improv games is great to clear an actor’s mind and get them into a playful spirit.

2. Vocal warm ups are great a couple of tongue twisters are great and other vocal warm ups are easy to find on-line.

3. Don’t forget to stretch the body and breath these are great to relax the actor’s instrument and will make a rehearsal or performance more relaxed.

4. Mediations and relaxation exercises can help the body and mind be more focused. And app that I live for this is Breathe and it gives some good mediation exercises that relax you and the actors and are only 5-10minutes. Everybody wants to know how to be an Actor’s Director-4

Doing these exercises can greatly increase the relaxation and trust your actors have for you. Being a new director can sometimes be challenging but the more team building you do with your actors and the more comfortable they are and you are the more fun things are and the more willing they will be to go to places that are scary for them. I mean honestly, you are asking them to show their emotions which is very counter-intuitive for a person as most people are taught to hide their emotions their whole life.
